Got Any Funny Wedding MC Jokes?

By Scott on Thursday, October 20th, 2011 | No Comments

Got any funny wedding MC jokes?

This is the most common question I get ... almost daily! It's
important to remember that every wedding is vastly different. From the
wedding party, to the families, to the guests, to the venue, to the
traditions, to the MC ... you will never find two wedding receptions
that are alike. As such, you can take the exact joke that worked
brilliantly at one reception and watch it fail miserably at another.

I'm sorry that I don't have a secret cache of `can't miss' wedding
jokes. Simply because they don't exist!

With that said, I'd like to reiterate what I believe is the hierarchy
of wedding joke `funnyness':

1. True stories of the wedding couple.

Always the best. If you think a story is genuinely funny, your guests
will too.

2. Pretend stories or longer jokes that are personalized.

Find stories or jokes from joke books or online that YOU think are
funny, then amend them to include the wedding party. See my post on
personalizing your wedding jokes for more info.

3. Canned one liners that you find online.

Please don't use these at all! They are not funny when told about some
arbitrary wedding couple. Leave these jokes for the drunk uncle to
bomb with.

The Number One secret to being a great Wedding MC

By Scott on Friday, September 9th, 2011 | No Comments

While every Wedding MC I've witnessed do his or her thing is different,
there is one trait that all successful emcees have in common.

Successful Wedding Emcees are ADAPTABLE.

What I mean by this is that the truly great ones are able to react to
any given situation and amend their Wedding MC scripts as required. If
the speeches seem to going very slowly, they jazz things up with quick
funny jokes and introduce the next speaker to speed things along. If
the speakers all have very short toasts, they are able to interject
with a longer story if needed.

Unfortunately, many well meaning emcees stick to a planned script or
program no matter what direction the reception is taking. I, more than
anyone, understand the need to plan a well thought out Wedding MC
script well ahead of time, but it's important to not be too rigid in
your delivery.

Check out the Wedding MC Workbook to learn more of the secrets of
successful Wedding Emcees.

To your success,

Scott

Writing a Wedding MC Script - The 3 Most Important Steps

By Scott on Monday, August 22nd, 2011 | No Comments

Writing out your wedding MC scripts, speeches and introductions is
undoubtedly one of the most difficult aspects of being a wedding MC.
You want to appear humorous yet sentimental, jovial yet professional.
A difficult task indeed.

I always follow these three steps when writing out and planning my
upcoming wedding MC script:

1. Gather the necessary information.

This is probably the most important step. You must conduct a thorough
interview with the wedding couple at least two weeks before the big
day. You are going to use this interview to find out how many toasts
are planned, the order of the reception, the names of everyone in the
wedding party and the like. You will also use this time to find out
more personal information about the bride and groom that you may not be
aware of.

2. Brainstorm the information.

Now that the couple has given you the basic outline of the evening, you
can use this information to start actually planning what it is you will
say. Start with writing out the introductions of the entire wedding
party and those scheduled to give speeches and toasts. This is the
easy part and will get your creative juices flowing. Now write down
everything you know about the bride and groom. Funny stories, how they
met, their quirks, their occupations, their hobbies. What stands out?
Remember, TRUE stories are always the funniest jokes at a wedding
reception, without exception.

3. Write your wedding MC script in a conversational tone.

One of the most important traits that makes an emcee successful is the
ability to appear natural. I recommend writing down your stories and
anecdotes and then reading them aloud. How does it FEEL? Do YOU think
the story is funny? I have witnessed wedding emcees tell absolutely
brilliant jokes that fell flat because he or she seemed too nervous. I
have also seen other emcees bring the house down with stories that made
very little sense, but they were giggling the whole time they spoke and
laughter is infectious!

That is why it is so important that you try to come up with true funny
stories before you resort to joke books. If you genuinely find
something funny, the audience will as well. And the ultimate gauge of
a successful wedding MC script is the reaction of the guests.

Where does the Wedding MC sit???

By Scott on Thursday, August 11th, 2011 | No Comments

Greeting up and coming Wedding MCs!

Had a question sent to me via email last week that I wanted to address.

Shane from Australia asks, "I wasn't sure how to handle logistics of
where to go when people come up for speeches, sometimes I took a seat,
and for a few I just stood behind if it was a short speech expected.
The banquet captain said it varies from what he has seen. Any
suggestions".

I feel your pain, Shane. The first time I was a Wedding Emcee, my table
was at the far end of the hall with the rest of the rowdy friends. I
felt ridiculous standing behind every speaker while they gave a toast,
but it was too far to head back to my table between each person.

Here is my suggestion:
When you are conducting your initial interview with the Bride & Groom,
ask them if they have a seating plan arranged already. If not, request
that you be seated at a table that is close to the microphone or area
where people will be giving speeches. This is the easiest solution as
it allows you to take a a quick seat at your proper table during each
speech.

If they have already finalized a seating arrangement, and you are not
close to the microphone, then, upon your arrival at the reception hall,
simply have an extra chair placed in an inconspicuous location near by
(If you have downloaded the Wedding MC Workbook, be sure to add this
task to your Wedding Day Checklist). This will allow you to get out of
the limelight and take a breather between speeches.

To your success,

The One Wedding Emcee Joke You Simply MUST End With

By Scott on Friday, April 29th, 2011 | 2 Comments

Just a quick post today folks. I wanted to share with you the one joke
that I end ALL of my Wedding Emcee gigs with. It goes as follows:

I wanted to make a short toast of my own. I've known John and Jane for
a few years now ... and I've seen them make a lot of tough decisions
together. Some good decisions ... and some not-so-good decisions. I'm
just glad that I could be here today to witness them make the best
decision of their lives ...

Choosing me as their MC.
I cannot recommend this one simple joke strongly enough as it has been
a surefire hit for me at all events. Just remember to time your
`pause' correctly in order to allow for the beginnings of applause ...
then hit them with the punchline!

I like to leave it until the end as I feel that it is a great closer
and leads nicely into the informal celebrations ... but the choice is
yours.

To your success,

Scott

3 Great Wedding Emcee Jokes To Start The Reception

By Scott on Wednesday, March 30th, 2011 | 3 Comments

It's always nice to start the evening off on the right foot. I have
seen, and personally used, each of the following 3 wedding emcee jokes
with great success over the years. They are quick, easy to learn, and
appropriate for virtually all groups (with, perhaps, the exception of
the last one).

See if one of these feels right to you. That is the most important
factor in delivering a successful wedding emcee joke ... that, deep
down, YOU find the joke funny also. If you have a genuine smile on
your face while delivering the joke, your audience will have one too!

1. Before we get started, I have a short personal announcement:

My wife/girlfriend is expecting

Oh my god ... I'm so sorry. I meant expecting me to NOT make a fool of
myself today.

I'm not off to a good start, my apologies

(Women Wedding Emcees can use an amended version of this joke also!)

5 Tips For Preparing Your Wedding Emcee Podium

By Scott on Wednesday, March 9th, 2011 | No Comments

Setting up the area where you will perform your Wedding Master of
Ceremonies duties is one of the most important, yet most overlooked,
items you are required to attend to. All of your preparations will be
pointless if the guests can't hear you, can't see you or, worst of all,
hurt themselves when giving a toast of their own.

With that in mind, here are 5 tips for setting up your wedding emcee
podium:

1. Can everyone hear you? It seems obvious, but I have been astounded
at the number of times I have a witnessed a reception where the master
of ceremonies did not test the microphone before he or she started.
Make sure the microphone is plugged in, that you are familiar with the
on/off switch and that the volume is adequate. Hint: have it a bit
louder than you think is appropriate to allow your Wedding Emcee Jokes
to be heard over low chatter.

2. Can everyone see you? Stand behind the podium or mic stand and look
around the room. Do you have good sight lines of the majority of the
room? Are there any pillars or other obstacles in your way? Can the
head table see you? It's a good idea to set up your stand to the side
and slightly in front of the head table. That way they will not have to
turn to see you. Read More...

The zorgium specific results appear in the right hand margin.

Find other ZORGIUM pages using your favorite search engine:

Enter your search keyword(s) and the keyword "zorgium" into the search input field of http://bing.com, http://yahoo.com or http://google.com.

Heads up: There's an ongoing spamdexing of Google searchbot algorithms. Sites that are 'copies of copies' and cloaked sites which include Zorgium keywords presented to search engine crawlers yet garbage content presented to human visitors were hosted on thousands of IP addresses and domains registered immediately after the introduction of Zorgium in November of 2009. The Hostgator/'The Planet'/Softlayer datacenters in Texas seem to be the epicenter of this activity in conjunction with anonymously registered domains of various TLD's but primarily .info domains at Godaddy which, in our opinion, has some sort of connection to the domains of goldmint.in and goldmint.org. Google has begun to notice this and has begun to lower the ranking of these sites and put our original sites back on top of the search rankings. These actions, as far as we can tell, negatively impact the use of the keyword 'zorgium' as a search term and provided little benefit, if any, to the perpetrators.

ZORGIUM note to content providers: If you don't want your page to appear in Zorgium's search abstraction then put an exclusion for "Zorgium" in your web server's robots.txt file.
